Playing For Life
Playing For Life

Sports ireland News is delighted to annouce that its nominated charity is Playing For Life (PFL) founded by Tracy Piggott with a view  to assisting in developing a safe and happy environment for young people through sport and play in severely underprivileged areas and to create an educational series of games, focusing on health, self respect and that of others, friendship, social integration, participation and team skills.

In 2006 PFL brought a group of almost 70 people to Malawi. This group provided training for a local NGO in health and AIDS/HIV prevention, account keeping, IT training, sports training, block laying, carpentry, welding and assisted in the initial phase of building a vocational education and training centre for the local community.

PFL also sponsored the Irish Homeless Street League soccer team in last years World Cup in Capetown, South Africa (you may have seen the documentary on RTE after Christmas). PFL sponsored the Kenyan Team in this event also and on the return journey both teams returned to Kenya where the teams and officials provided sports training in the Haruma Slum of Nairobi and in Nakura and Molo, two areas about 4 hours drive north of Nairobi.
PFL is also involved with and supports an orphanage in Haruma.
